If you've tried tallow before, you probably remember the shine. This balm is why we took our time coming back. It's dense in the jar, melts on contact, and feels velvety as it softens and moisturizes dry, delicate skin. Then it settles into a satin finish, not a slick one.

The difference is balance. Tallow is rich but short on linoleic acid, so we added high-linoleic sunflower oil. Squalane, the stable form of an oil your skin already makes, keeps it light. Unscented on purpose, so it's a balm the whole family can share.

How to use

Warm a small amount between your fingertips and press it into dry spots. Start with less than you think; a little goes a long way. Use it morning, night, or whenever skin feels tight.

Tallow Balm in an amber glass jar with a black lid

Why these ingredients

GRASS-FED TALLOW

The base, and where this balm started. Its fats are similar to the ones found in skin's natural oils. On its own it can feel heavy, which is what the next ingredients fix.

HIGH-LINOLEIC SUNFLOWER OIL

The usual knock on tallow is that it's lopsided: very little linoleic acid, the omega-6 found in skin's natural oils. High-linoleic sunflower fills that gap and lightens the feel.

SQUALANE

Your skin makes its own squalene. Squalane is its stable form: light, and slow to go stale.

MEADOWFOAM SEED OIL

Mostly long-chain fats, which makes it very stable. It gives the balm its cushion and helps keep the sunflower oil fresh.

COCO-CAPRYLATE/CAPRATE + RICE BRAN WAX + BEHENYL ALCOHOL

The slip and the structure. A coconut-derived emollient gives silky glide without silicones, and the plant wax and fatty alcohol give the balm its body: firm in the jar, smooth as it melts, with a soft, velvety feel once it's on. (Behenyl alcohol is the soft kind of alcohol, not the drying kind.)

VITAMIN E + ROSEMARY EXTRACT

These look after the oils, not your skin. They slow oxidation, so the balm stays fresh longer.

Questions

What does “satin finish” mean?

It's the space between shiny and powdery: a soft, low-sheen finish that just looks like moisturized skin.

Does it smell like beef?

Hardly, if at all. There's no added fragrance and no essential oils. Up close it smells faintly creamy and a little nutty, from the oils, and that fades fast.

Which size should I get?

The 50 g fits in a bag or a desk drawer. The 100 g stays on the bathroom shelf. Same balm in both.

How long does a jar last?

Use it within 12 months of opening. Don't dip wet fingers into the jar, because water in the jar can let mold grow.
